POPULAR SCUBA DIVING SPOTS

ANILAO (BATANGAS)
It is ideal for observing marine life and macro photography. Multi-hued crinoids are prolific with a variety of nudibranch. Night dives often reveal unusual creatures like sea hares, sea goblins and blue-ringed octopuses.

Other Dive sites:
· Cathedral, a well-established fish feeding station covered with corals.
· Sombrero has good coral growth.
· Beatrice Rock and Bajura are nearby with schools of triggerfishes.
· Sepok has nice coral gardens and a vertical wall.
· Devil's Point Twin Rocks, Coral Gardens, and Mainit are shallow dives with a wide array of invertebrates, Bonete, Arthur's, and Koala offer good dives for novices with a good selection of hard and soft corals, anemones and goblin fish.

PUERTO GALERA (ORIENTAL MINDORO)
Puerto Galera is blessed with one of the world's most beautiful natural harbors. There are shallow coral gardens, interesting rock formations, and colorful species to watch.

· Verde Island offering one of the best wall dives in the Philippines
· Pandan Island is a national marine park and sanctuary
· Apo Island famous for its wall dives dotted by stunning fan corals and gorgonians.

CABILAO ISLAND (BOHOL)
Cabilao Island lies in the northwest of Tagbilaran, in the Cebu Strait between Cebu and Bohol. It is renowned for hammerhead sharks, which shoal around the clear waters from December to June. Large pelagics are very common at Cabilao.

BALICASAG ISLAND (BOHOL)
Situated 20km from Alona Beach, Balicasag Island is one of the best dive sites in Visayas. Balicasag Dive Resort run by the Philippine Tourism Authority is the only resort on the island.

Other Dive sites:

· Black Coral Forest with a rare outcropping of black coral at 30m.
· Turtle Point named after the turtles, which shelter in the caves 18-20m down the wall.
· The Cathedral Wall with a profusion of cracks and crevices that require a flashlight to explore.
· Pelagics hang off the wall in the current.

APO ISLAND (NEGROS ORIENTAL)
Apo lies off the coast of southeast Negros Oriental. It is home to Negros Oriental Marine Conservation Park.

MALAPASCUA (CEBU)
Malapascua is a paradise with white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters. The west coast is especially ideal for swimming and snorkeling. It takes about three hours by land from Cebu City to reach the island.

TUBBATAHA REEF NATIONAL PARK (PALAWAN)
It is a marine sanctuary located in the Middle Central Sulu Sea and 98 nautical miles southeast of Puerto Princesa City. Declared a World Natural Heritage site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), it is under protective management by the Department of National Defense (DND).

MACTAN ISLAND (CEBU)
It is a coral island and beach site famous for scuba diving. Just a few meters from the shoreline will take you to an amazing wall drop-off to very deep water.

OLANGO ISLAND (CEBU)
Olango Island supports the largest concentration of migratory birds found thus far in the country. Migration of these birds starts from their breeding places in Siberia, Northern China, and Japan.

SUBIC BAY (OLONGAPO)
Subic Bay in Olongapo boasts of marvelous spots such as, the USS New York, a battleship scuttled during World War II; El Capitan, a 130m-long, 3000-ton freighter that went down in the mouth of Ilanin Bay; The San Quentin, a wooden gunboat scuttled in the Spanish-American War in 1898 and The Oryoku Maru, the "Hell Ship" that sunk in an air attack, with more than 1600 American POWs on board.
Subic also has good coral dives; such as Grande Island and Triboa Bay.

GRANDE ISLAND
An historical Spanish Fortress, American Fort Wint and U.S. Navy leisure island, Grande Island is now an Island Resort. A short boat ride from Subic Bay, it offers one of the finest dive sites for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.

TRIBOA BAY
The best time to dive is between February and June. Subic has the country's oldest established recompression chamber, one of only three available to sport divers.

CORON BAY & BUSUANGA (PALAWAN)
Seven enchanting lakes surrounded by craggy limestone cliffs attract hundreds of nature lovers to Coron Reefs in Northern Palawan, near the town of Coron.

BUSUANGA ISLAND
It is the jump-off point for numerous dive operators. The principal dive sites are twelve WWII Japanese shipwrecks sunk on September 24, 1944 by US Navy action.

MOALBOAL (CEBU)
About a third of the way up the west coast of Cebu is the sleepy little market town of Moalboal. About 5 kilometers outside the town, down a dusty track, is Panagsama Beach which was one of the first places where scuba diving caught on in the Philippines.

BACUIT BAY & EL NIDO - MINILOC ISLAND (NORTHERN PALAWAN)
This nature spot boasts of diverse ecosystems. Countless varieties of fish are found here. Manta rays are a common sight. When in season, divers may see one of the world's rarest marine mammals, the sea cow known locally as "dugong".

PUERTO GALERA (MINDORO)
Puerto Galera encompasses the entire coastline for a dozen or so kilometers either side of the town. It comprises dozens of developed, deserted and private little coves and bays accessible for day trips and snorkeling.

TAYTAY BAY (NORTHERN PALAWAN)
Taytay is the old capital of Palawan , located on the east side of the island south of El Nido. It is a good jump-off point for diving and trekking adventures. Dugongs have been spotted occasionally and in November 1998, fresh-water dolphins were discovered in nearby Malampaya Sound.
